FRAUENLIEBE, INC. - directed by Johannes Müller - presented at Ballhaus Ost and Hamburger Sprechwerk. Come and meet us at the musical crossroads of Robert Schumann, Adalbert von Chamisso, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Martha Stewart and Gesche Gottfried. And for our last-minute theatergoers, Oper Dynamo West presents a singular photographic slide show performance: Versuche zur Überwindung der Schwerkraft (T.D.) on February, 1st.

“So now we hang up lettuce leaves coated in varnish to create the illusion of a fairy tale forest... I'm trying to make this place habitable, Andy. Does it look like I’m going to let anyone else redecorate this dump? I'm going to do it myself. I'm not going to sit here on my ass until you get promoted. I’ll start with this wall and I'll turn this place into a palace.”

FRAUENLIEBE, INC. crosses Robert Schumann's only song cycle for female voice with the story of the German serial killer Geesche Gottfried and the life of American homemaking magnate Martha Stewart. The former, executed in Bremen in the year in which Adalbert von Chamisso's poems were published, practiced an extreme form of feminism by poisoning every man that crossed her path with arsenic coffee. And the latter turned her small catering enterprise into LivingStewartOmnimedia, a self-advertising system of cooking shows, magazines, books and product placement like nothing you've ever seen before. FRAUENLIEBE, INC. reacts to the intimacy of the song cycle "Frauenliebe und -leben" (A Woman's Love and Life), this total encroachment and exposure of privacy and emotion, which always also implicates a taste of the pornographic, with deconstruction - where homemaking becomes art.

Versuche zur Überwindung der Schwerkraft (T.D.)

A singular photographic slide show performance, February, 1st at 2pm

"Some time ago a cardboard box was discoverd in the archives of the Deutsche Oper Berlin containing several folders. There was no explanation of how these folders made their way into the archives or who had put them there, they just suddenly appeared." - The 15-minute photographic slide show Versuche zur Überwindung der Schwerkraft (T.D.) tells the story of Traudlinde Drobbe, a commited regular visitor of the Deutsche Oper during the 1980’s who meticulously documented her visits. The slide show gives insight into Traudlinde Drobbe's collection and her silent longing for tragedy set to music. Versuche zur Überwindung der Schwerkraft (T.D.) is an excerpt from vom schweben (OPER DYNAMO WEST at the Deutsche Oper Berlin in May 2008) and will be presented as a one-time show at the re-opening of the Kommunale Galerie Berlin.
