Gorilla Tango Theatre - Accepting Applications For Burlesque Competition

Gorilla Tango Theatre in Chicago (1919 N. Milwaukee Ave.) is now accepting applications for the Gorilla Tango $500 Burlesque Thing, an open burlesque competition for burlesque striptease performers of all styles, genders, and levels of experience.

There is no entry fee.

Shows will be Wednesdays in September at 9pm (8:30 call time).

Competitors will be asked to commit to ONE Wednesday show in early September for the Preliminary Round. The top 3 scoring performers in each Preliminary Round performance advance to the Championship Round on Sept 26. In the Championship Round one winner is selected (again by audience vote) to receive$500 in cash. Second and third place win an assortment of fun prizes from Gorilla Tango Theatre and its partners, but are not awarded cash. Performers will not be paid (except for the winner) but we will hold one tip break per show, and performers will spit tips evenly among cast and crew (usually $5-$10 per person).

Performers are evaluated by audience vote. Each audience member receives three voting chips, and are required to distribute them among their top three choices. This system (used in all of our “$500 competition” shows) prevents “audience loading” and produces the most genuine results (though it will still help your chances to get your friends and fans in the audience!).
