The profession that teaches skills for theater and acting
Theatre pedagogues teach theater and drama skills. Theater education is an educational and communicative process that uses fictional role-playing in a group setting to enhance the individual or group. Theatre pedagogues can work in a variety of settings and with different age groups, from theater play with young children to work with adults. In Germany, we distinguish theatre pedagogue from acting teachers, but in English, both professions are called drama teachers.
They must have good acting skills and a strong interest in working with people, in developing groups and individuals, and in all aspects of theater. Depending on the educational institution, the prerequisite for admission to training for theater pedagogy is an intermediate education degree, a college or university degree that qualifies you to work in a pedagogical, social, artistic, intercultural or theater-related professional field, sometimes also a pedagogical or artistic education or vocational training with proof of pedagogical practice. Jobs for theatre pedagogues are primarily the entire school sector, art colleges, amateur theaters or health care institutions.
